Jockipedia:FAQ
From Jockipedia
What is Jockipedia?
JOCKIPEDIA is the most complete and accurate source of first-person communication links for every athlete in the world. It’s where you can find an athlete's REAL Twitter Feeds, THEIR own Personal Blogs (as opposed to blogs about them), THEIR real Facebook and MySpace pages (as opposed to fan pages) and THEIR own Websites (as opposed to fan sites). It's also where you'll find links to their Video Channels (like YouTube or Motionbox Channels), and their Photo Galleries (like Flickr and Shutterfly).
Do I have to be a professional athlete to create a page on Jockipedia?
No. If you're over the age of 13, you can create your own page, complete with your photo, personal description and personal links. All you have to do is complete the registration form and then log in to create your own page. Please remember never to post or use copyrighted material without permission.
How do I Register?
You can register simply by clicking the “Log in/Create Account” Button in the top right corner of the Jockipedia Home Page. Or by following this link and filling out the form. You will then need to verify your e-mail address. Once you have received the verification e-mail, follow the link provided and you’re ready to rock and roll.
What does it mean when you say, “just like Wikipedia?”
Jockipedia is built on a modified Wiki platform, which allows users to enter in new information and edit existing information — that’s the key to making and keeping Jockipedia the most complete and accurate source of athletes’ first-person URLs.
Once you’ve registered, you can create, modify and contribute to any athlete’s page adding or correcting the links to an athlete’s personal website, like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and blogs. (You can also flag content on the site that is false, is in violation of copyright laws, or seems a little fishy.)
What do I do if I notice an error on an athlete page?
First make sure you’re logged in, then simply click the “Flag This Entry” Button below the athlete’s photo, provide specific information about the error, and Jockipedia will take care of the rest.
How do I contribute to an athlete’s page?
All you have to do is Log In, navigate to the athlete’s page, and simpye click the “Add” or “Edit” Button/Link next to the field(s) you wish to contribute to.
What are the “Categories” for?
Categories are used to help you browse related athletes or items, relative to the page you’re on. For example, if you’re on Chris Bosh’s page, you can click on any of his categories and see other related pages or athletes that are linked to that specific category. Categories can be used to help you browse for a narrower field of information, or you can simply use the Jockipedia search function found on every page.
Where can I make comments?
Jockipedia is not an editorial site, so we don’t provide a Comment Section on the site. The real goal of Jockipedia is to provide one simple place to get all the First-Person information you want about any athlete. If you are interested in sharing your thoughts and checking out what other people have to say, jump on over to TheJockosphere.com
What is the “Watchlist?”
The Watchlist is a helpful tool that allows you to keep up to date on your favorite athletes. The Watchlist will send you notifications when things change on the pages of the athletes you are “watching.” For example: Let’s say you add Peyton Manning to your watch list (by clicking the Watch Link in the Gray Link Bar on the top of the page) — if someone adds a new link (let’s say Petyon suddenly starts Tweeting) or changes any information on Peyton’s page, you will receive an email notification.
I am trying to add a link to an Athlete Page and it won’t work. What should I do?
First, always double check that you are properly logged on to Jockipedia. If this doesn’t resolve the issue then make sure that you have actually verified your account with us. (After registration, you should have received a verification e-mail at the e-mail address you provided in the registration form. If you never received this e-mail, check your e-mail’s spam folder. If you cannot find the e-mail or after verification, you still cannot contribute to Jockipedia, please contact us at Support@Jockipedia.com.)
I am having trouble editing athlete’s pages. What do I do?
As a standard user, you are able to add information to any athlete’s page and modify any of your own contributions. However, you cannot edit contributions made by other users. If you find an error and don’t mind letting us fix it, just click the “Flag This Entry” button below the athlete’s photo. Give us the reason you flagged the athlete’s page and Jockipedia will correct any errors.

You can only Edit other user’s contributions if you are a Jockipedia Editor. If you would like to be considered for an Editor’s position please contact us by clicking this link, or by e-mailing us at d@jockipedia.com.

I attempted to create a page and ended up at the “Form:Athlete” what does this mean?
Just enter the Name of your favorite athlete or your Name and click the “Add or Edit” button. The “Add or Edit” function will search our records to verify the status of the entry. If that Name has already been entered, it will bring up the information currently stored for that specific name. If there is no information linked to that Name, then you can create a new Athlete Page. Remember, you need to have an Account and be Logged In to Create or Contribute to an Athlete Page.
I’m having technical issues not covered in your FAQ. What do I do?
Please contact us at Support@Jockipedia.com with specific information regarding the technical issue you are experiencing. Please include any error messages or specific details that will help us resolve your technical issue as soon as possible.
I tried to create an Athlete Page and there is another athlete listed on Jockipedia with the same name as myself/another, what can I do?
With all the people around the globe we realize that some athlete’s names will be duplicated, if your name is already in use on Jockipedia, we suggest that you differentiate your name by using a middle initial or full middle name. For example, if your name and another athlete’s name is “David Wright,” try using “David S. Wright” or “David Samuel Wright.” If you have the exact same first, middle and last name as another athlete you can also use your Nickname or Jersey Number (in parentheses) to distinguish your athlete page from another. For example, “David Samuel Wright” has already been used; try “David Wright (26),” or “David ‘Sam’ Wright.” Please remember this is a public forum and anything flagged as inappropriate or derogatory will be removed from Jockipedia without notice.
